Gifu Station is a primary station for Gifu City, the prefectural capital of Gifu. The Tokaido Main Line and the Takayama Main Line are available. Most tourists who visit Gifu Prefecture use this station.
It is ideal to use a rental car when you travel to tourist attractions because most areas in Gifu Prefecture are in mountains. There are car rental service offices in various locations including along the street from the south exit of Gifu Station and also toward Meitetsu Gifu Station. It is recommended to book in advance.
Gifu Castle Tenshukaku (castle tower), Mt. Kinka Ropeway or Kinkabashi Dori (street) are popular tourist spots and are about 15 minutes by car from the station. Chiyobo Inari Shrine is famous for the God of business. Many worshippers including from other prefectures visit this shrine. Chiyobo Inari Shrine is about 38 minutes from the station via prefectural road 187 → prefectural road 1 → National Route 21 → Prefectural road 163.
