Miyazaki Airport is located in the southern part of Miyazaki City along the coast. It is also known by the nickname "Miyazaki Bougainvillea Airport". Downtown Miyazaki is only about 30 minutes drive from Miyazaki Airport.
You may book a rental car at the Information Counter near the Domestic arrival lobby on the 1st floor. Although a booking on the day of your arrival is available, there will be no worry if you make a reservation in advance.
Since most of Miyazaki Prefecture's famous tourist attractions are located in relatively distant areas from Miyazaki Airport, it is recommended to travel via expressways. Obi is about 1 hour, Kirishima hot spring village is about 1 hour and 30 minutes and Cape Toi and the Takachiho areas are about 2 hours and 30 minutes from the airport. It is going to be a relatively long drive to go to various sights. However, you may leisurely and comfortably enjoy the views.
Miyazaki City is the capital of Miyazaki Prefecture located in the central part of the prefecture. Miyazaki Station is a primary station for this city. Although there is public transportation including JR and buses in Miyazaki City, it is ideal to travel by rental car when you go sightseeing.
There are car rental service offices in various locations in Miyazaki City including the areas surrounding Miyazaki Station and Miyazaki Airport. Some service offices offer drop-off (one-way rentals).
The Takachiho and the Obi (in the southern part of the prefecture) are famous tourist destinations in Miyazaki Prefecture. However, there are numerous tourist attractions within Miyazaki City as well. Miyazaki-jingu (shrine) where the Miyazaki Prefectural Museum of Nature and History and Archaeological Center are located, it is about 30 minutes drive. Aoshima Shrine is about 25 minutes drive located on an island surrounded by a coastal line. The Horikiri mountain pass is about 40 minutes drive. It is one of Miyazaki's greatest scenic spots. Florante Miyazaki where you can enjoy seasonal flowers all year round is about 10 minutes drive.
Miyazaki Station is the entrance to Miyazaki Prefecture. The station is known as only available for the JR Nippo Main Line, but the Nichinan Line and the Miyazaki Kuko Line are available as well. It provides easy access to Miyazaki Airport as well. Miyazaki Airport is about 15 minutes by car from the station.
Car rental service offices are in various locations in the areas surrounding the terminal near the west exit of Miyazaki Station. It is convenient to use a rental car when you visit various sightseeing spots in Miyazaki City. You may make a reservation in advance.
Akae IC is the closest interchange to Miyazaki Station. If you go sightseeing by rental car, you may use the Expressway in order to travel efficiently. Obi is about 1 hour, Nobeoka is about 1 hour and 50 minutes and Takachiho is about 2 hours and 30 minutes drive from the station via expressway. Aoshima (island) and the Phoenix Seagaia Resort are about 15 minutes drive via general roads.
