    Shin-Yamaguchi Station is a hub station representing Yamaguchi City, the capital of Yamaguchi Prefecture. The Sanyo Shinkansen, the Sanyo Main Line, the Yamaguchi Line and the Ube Line are available.

    Although many railways and buses are available at Shin-Yamaguchi Station, it will be convenient to use a car if you are planning to go to various tourist attractions. There is a car rental service counter in the concourse located on the 1st floor near the stairways to the Shinkansen Exit.

    The Hofu Tenman-gu (Shrine) is one of the first Tenman-gu in Japan which enshrines "Sugawara no Michizane" as Tenjin. It is a famous tourist site located near Shin-Yamaguchi Station. The Hofu Tenman-gu (Shrine) is about 30 minutes from Shin-Yamaguchi Station via National Route 2 (Ogoori-doro) → San'yo Expressway → Hofu Bypass. The Akiyoshi-do (Cave) is also a popular destination. You may go to this mysterious cave via Chūgoku Expressway and National Route 435.

    The air gateway to Yamaguchi Prefecture

    Yamaguchi Ube Airport is an air gateway to Yamaguchi Prefecture. It is located in Yamaguchi City. Available flights are only round trips to/from Tokyo. However, you can enjoy sightseeing leisurely into the night because the flights are available from about 7 am until about 8 pm.

    It takes more than an hour by train or bus from Yamaguchi Ube Airport to downtown Yamaguchi City. It takes about 50 minutes if you use share taxi "Airport Express". Since this airport is located in a remote area, it is ideal to rent a car at the airport in order to start sightseeing right away. There is a car rental terminal on the 1st floor of Airport building annex. Renting a car at this location is highly recommended.

    Drive along the road from Yamaguchi Ube Airport to downtown Yamaguchi City via prefectural road 220 → Yamaguchi Ube Road → prefectural road 20 (about 40 mins.) toward Yamaguchi Station. In addition, Yuda Onsen which is a popular tourist attraction in Yamaguchi Prefecture, is located on the way to Yamaguchi Station.

    Yamaguchi City is the capital of Yamaguchi Prefecture. It is also known as the birthplace of Chuya Nakahara who was a modern famous poet. Yamaguchi City is putting its effort into tourism. The number of tourists from neighboring cities and from other prefectures have been increasing every year.

    There are many tourist attractions in Yamaguchi City including the Yuda Onsen and the National treasure Rurikoji Temple Five-storied pagoda, and also vast natural beauty is a must-see. It is recommended to rent a car and enjoy leisurely sightseeing. There are several car rental service offices near Shin-Yamaguchi Station and Yudaonsen Station.

    Recommended sightseeing destinations from Shin-Yamaguchi Station are the Joeiji Sesshutei which is referred to as the garden created by Sesshu, the Yamaguchi Castle Ruin and the Toshun-ji Temple where the graves of the Mori family are located. The Joeiji Sesshutei is about 28 minutes drive from Shin-Yamaguchi Station via prefectural road 214 → National Route 9.
