Oita Airport -- rental cars are a must-have

Oita Airport is located far from the city of Oita. Kitsuki Station is the closest train station but it is not adjacent to the airport. It may be reached by Airport Express Bus, public bus or taxi. This airport is known for amazing views since it is a semi-offshore airport.

Rental cars are convenient when you go to various tourist attractions from Oita Airport. There is a car rental service counter near the arrival lobby on the 1st floor of the Domestic terminal building. Courtesy service will be provided preferentially for those who made reservations.

Most tourist attractions including the Yufuin Onsen are about 50 minutes by car via the expressway. The Beppu Onsen is about 1 hour. Nakatsu City is famous for fried chicken and is about 1 hour and 20 minutes drive from the airport. Yaba Gorge is chosen as one of Japan's New Three Greatest Views. It is about 1 hour and 30 minutes drive from the airport.

A station in the most thriving town in Oita Prefecture

Oita Station is the entrance to Oita Prefecture. The area surrounding the Kita-guchi Exit is the most thriving downtown in Oita Prefecture. There are many commercial facilities and government offices.

Public transit including the Nippo Main Line (JR), the Kyudai Main Line, the Hohi Main Line and buses are available at this station. However, it is more convenient to use a rental car when you go sightseeing. Car rental service offices are located on the left from the Uenonomori-guchi (south exit) which is to the right from the ticket gate of Oita Station.

The Oita IC and the Oita-Mitsuyoshi IC are the closest interchanges to the station. The Beppu Onsen is the most popular tourist destination in Oita Prefecture. It is about 20 minutes drive from the station via local streets. Other tourist attractions are via Expressway from the station – the Yufuin Onsen is about 50 minutes, Bungotakada City is about an hour and Nakatsu City is about an hour and 10 minutes.

The resort town for hot spring tours

Yufuin is a famous resort town in Oita Prefecture. It is located approximately in the middle of Oita prefecture and there are three hot springs. Yufuin is visited by many Onsen fans all year round.

Although there is public transit including trains and buses to go to Yufuin, you will be able to travel all three hot springs efficiently if you use a rental car. When you rent a car, it is recommended to choose a car rental service office which is available for drop-off near Yufuin Station, Oita Airport, Oita Station or Hakata Station.

Yufuin is about 50 minutes drive from Oita Airport or Oita Station via Expressway, or is about an hour and 30 minutes from Hakata Station. Since Beppu is only 15 minutes drive from Yufuin, you may enjoy more hot spring tours. Lake Kinrin and Mt. Yufu are also popular tourist destinations.
