Obihiro Airport is located at the south-eastern Obihiro in southern Hokkaido. The airport is also nicknamed as [Tokachi Obihiro Airport], because it is located in the farming area of inland of Tokachi Heiya. It is actively used as the gateway of Tokachi region because of its location.
It is recommended to use a rental car for travelling in the vast area of Tokachi. You can drive to various sightseeing spots in the north region freely and as you want if you use a rental car. Obihiro Racecourse is approximately 40 minutes from the airport by using the highway. It is the only racecourse in the world where [Ban'ei horse racing] is being held. Ban'ei horses are twice as big as a thoroughbred. It is spectacular watching the Ban'ei horses powerfully competing and being urged on by the jockeys sitting on top of them.
Shikaribetsu Lake is located of 801m above sea level. This lake is famous as the only natural lake among the other lakes in the Daisetsuzan National Park. This tourism spot is enjoyable all year around. Ogon road is located on the way to the south from Obihiro to Cape Erimo. You can fully enjoy the thrill of the scenery because the road was built on the steep shore.
