Hakodate Station is in Hakodate city located in southern Hokkaido. This station is a very beautiful building which features barrier-free, there are no steps from exit and entrance to the platform. First of all, where you want to stop by the station is the [Waterfront]. The group of Red Brick Warehouse are the most eye-catching sight among others. They were built in the Meiji era, and they are used as stores by various businesses even today. The atmosphere is matching perfectly to the image of the port city [Hakodate].
It is recommended to use a rental car if you want to enjoy the drive while you travel in Hakodate. You can go to the Hakodate mountaintop observatory in 3 minutes by the ropeway (aerial lift). The view from the mountaintop observatory is 360 degrees of large panorama and the scenery of the sea from precipitous cliffs where Cape Tachimachi stands --- the both of them are magnificent views.
It is highly recommended to visit Hakodate’s Morning Market, if you are staying near Hakodate Station. There are over 400 stores and by 5 am the market area is filled with high-spirited loud voices flying around all over the place and there are many tourists. It is a very vibrant site. This place is always crowded and energetic so you can enjoy the seafood of Hokkaido by watching as well as eating.
