Hakodate Station is a starting station for the JR Hakodate Main Line. There are various ways to visit Hakodate. You can travel by train from Sapporo Station to Hakodate Station, by ferry to the Port of Hakodate or by airplane to Hakodate Airport.
Hakodate is famous for great night views including Mount Hakodate, Goryokaku and Hakodate Port. The bay area walk and the Hakodate Asaichi (Fish Market) are also popular. Although a tram is available in Hakodate, it is ideal to use a rental car in order to travel conveniently and freely. The onuma Quasi-National Park, Mount E, Lake Toya, Matsumae, Esashi and Niseko are popular driving destinations and recommended for those who want to go sightseeing somewhat distant from Hakodate. Ohnuma is about an hour from Hakodate Airport, Lake Toya is about 2 hours and 40 minutes, Matsumae and Esashi areas are about 2 hours and Niseko is about 3 hours drive from the airport.
