Kitakyushu Airport was built on the artificial island in Kitakyushu city Fukuoka Prefecture. The airport opened in 2006 and it has become the air gateway for locals and tourists. When you travel by a rental car from the airport for approximately 25 minutes, you will arrive at Quasi-National Park [Hiraodai] which is one of the 3 largest in Japan. You can enjoy the limestones that look like a flock of sheep and you can enjoy the seasonal landscape etc. in Hiraodai. There is a nature experience-based park [Hiraodai Countryside Park] in the Hiraodai area where there are plenty of playground equipment field and dining facilities etc. There are various experience-based menus including the Teuchi soba (handmade Soba noodles) or pottery, so everyone in your family can play in this park.
There are a variety of sightseeing sites in Kitakyushu, such as a castle town of Kokura, Mojiko where there are full of history and romance and Kanmon Straits that connects Honshu and Kyushu. There is a unique program in Kitakyushu called [Kitakyushu City Tourist Information Volunteer Program] which the city will provide the guided tour with the reasonable fee when you make a reservation in advance.
